Project

We regenerate the rural environment and combat the social exclusion of young people and migrants with training in the operation of agricultural machinery.

We train the new generation in the countryside while we combat the social exclusion of young people in vulnerable situation, especially migrants, through a training course in tractor driving for 9 people for one month.

The course, which is carried out in Raimat (Lleida) in addition to increasing the employability opportunities of the participating youth and their cultural integration, provides qualified human capital to companies in the area, favoring the development of the rural economy. The project is committed to actions with a transformative impact, following regenerative economy criteria that create opportunities and generate links between community members threatened by population aging and climate change.

Agricultural Training in Raimat has a double social and environmental aspect because it avoids rural depopulation (fixing youth in the countryside) and favors the maintenance of agricultural and forestry activities that protect pastures and forests, thus avoiding soil erosion and reducing the danger of desertification.

This program has been possible thanks to the synergy of two companies, two institutions, and three social entities under the coordination of United Way Spain. United Way’s long-standing relationship with John Deere made it possible to kick-start this pilot. The promotion of our partner entity, the Raimat Lleida Community Foundation, stands out especially, in connecting the different agents in that area to respond to a problem, the lack of qualified personnel in the management of agricultural machinery, whose solution will have multiple and transversal impacts on the future of the area.
